As an internationally acclaimed astrologer, Leslie McGuirk uses her knowledge to help clients not only discover themselves on a deeper level but heal and move on from trauma and struggles. In today’s episode, we sat down with Leslie to discuss her history with astrology, how she reads her client’s charts, mercury in retrograde, and the accuracy of zodiac signs. First, Leslie shared with us her personal history with astrology and how she became an astrologer. She told us that growing up, discussing or learning about astrology was frowned upon. However, after attending a seminar hosted by one of her mother’s friends, she was moved by the experience and began studying astrology herself. She had expected the seminar to be similar to a psychic reading, but instead of being told her fortune, she was told intimate details about herself that helped guide her down the right path.Through astrology, she learned that while most people know their sun signs, there are so many other factors that are not talked about. When we’re born, there’s a map system that displays how the planets were aligned when we were born. This alignment shows us not only our sun sign but our moon and mercury sign as well. We then asked Leslie about what an average session looks like with one of her clients. She said that before meeting with someone, she ensures she knows nothing about them, not even their appearance. It’s important to her that everything she learns about a client is discovered during their session, when they can give her details about themselves instead of her making assumptions beforehand. In her sessions, she often goes through a client’s family history through an astrology chart, and by doing so can find the cause of issues such as addiction, parental figure issues, and more.

She also practices the concept of family constellations. Discovered by a psychotherapist in Germany, family constellations stems from the idea that problems are generational, and that if we can find the root cause of an issue in our family history, we can break the cycle and move forward. Leslie also uses EMDR with her clients, which is a form of eye movement therapy that involves bilateral brain stimulation. When asked about astrology charts, Leslie explained that the chart is essentially a map that shows which planets are connecting or clashing depending on the date and time a person was born. To demonstrate the charts’ use, Leslie shared a story about a sixteen-year-old client she had. The boy had two very Type A parents and was nothing like them, which led the parents to grow frustrated and think he was lazy. When he was brought to Leslie, she read his chart and realized that while his parents had fire in their charts, he had water. She suggested that the son start swimming, and when he did, his life changed for the better. After one year of being on a swim team, he was winning state championships and eventually ended up going to a good college. For reading charts, if a person does not know the time they were born, then Leslie is still able to give them a reading by compensating for the missing information with different questions. However, if a person is adopted or their date of birth is unknown, then giving them a reading is difficult and can be inaccurate. We then asked Leslie about her experience helping clients trying to move past trauma, and she talked to us about how she’s seen many clients who have gone through childhood traumas and develop unhealthy coping mechanisms that they carry with them into adulthood. She has not only professional but personal experience with this and shared her own childhood trauma with us. For her, EMDR was the most effective form of therapy, and she’s helped dozens of clients with EMDR in her own sessions. When asked about the different opinions regarding mercury in retrograde, Leslie debunked the idea that it is a negative time for everyone. While a majority of the population may feel a shift, people who were born when mercury was in retrograde have positive experiences. Mercury in retrograde means the universe is allowing us to go in reverse and rejuvenate, so it is not always a negative time. We then talked about zodiac signs, and Leslie emphasized how basing a person’s entire personality on their sun sign is dangerous. She explained that while sun signs are a part of us, it is our moon sign that shows more of who we are as a person and how we respond to things. If a person is unsure of their moon sign, they can find a test online that will calculate it for them.
