EPISODE SUMMARY:
Most Gen X women remember a challenging time in life when Wilson Philip’s song “Hold On” was the anthem to get through it. It still resonates for many of us today. Hot Flashes & Cool Topics was gifted with a beautiful conversation with Carnie Wilson to talk about Wilson Philips but so much more. We chat about music, celebrity, family, midlife and her new venture with her company Love Bites by Carnie.
Carnie Wilson:
Carnie Wilson was born into the entertainment. Her dad was Brian Philips of the Beach Boys so it is no surprise that she is an amazing singer. While still a teenager, she co-founded Wilson Philips with her sister Wendy and Chynna Philips and they produced 2 albums which sold over 12 million copies. She tells a poignant story in this interview of the music executive who told the group that they had failed because their second album did not outshine the first, hearing that you are a failure at an early age was something quite traumatic. She did not let that stop her and has been pivoting successfully ever since.
Carnie is also extremely honest about her weight struggles which many women can relate to as well. She underwent gastric bypass surgery in 1999 (live on TV no less) and we talk about how it is still a struggle today. How relatable is that? Her honesty mixed with some bad ass is just what women in midlife and beyond need to hear.
Carnie Wilson is a ball of energy. She has learned to pivot in her career more times than you can count; always moving toward something better. She has been a talk show host, frequent co-chair of The Talk, celebrity endorser, reality star, entertainer and now add baker to that list. With the start of Love Bites By Carnie, she is showing her amazing baking skills with cookies, cheesecakes and all are delicious. Check out her website, the cookies are delicious and the gift sets adorable.
In her personal life, Carnie is happily married to Rob Bonfiglio and has two beautiful daughters. Don’t be surprised if you hear a duet with one of her daughters in the near future.
