On this episode, we have an important and informative conversation with Dr. Liz Lyster about menopause, perimenopause, HRTs and thriving in midlife. Dr. Lyster’s expertise and specialty regarding women in perimenopause and menopause is invaluable for every woman.
Dr. Lyster is an OB/GYN medical doctor, best-selling author and speaker, and an expert in perimenopause and menopause. She graduated from Cornell University, went to medical school at UC Irvine, and got her Masters degree at UCLA in Community Health Education.
We discuss stages of perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause and the uncomfortable and significant side effects that often accompany this transition in life. Dr. Liz discusses options for improving many of the symptoms including the use of Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy and other medications. She clarifies many of the incorrect “results” in the early 2000 reports surrounding HRTs and explains the benefits of Bio-Identical estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. She explains the significance of checking cortisol levels, DHEA, thyroid and adrenal glands as they are all interconnected and relevant to this transitional stage of life.
We also talk about two of her two books GO FOR GREAT and EASY GUIDE TO MENOPAUSE. She explains the hormone variations during the stages of menopause and how they affect our moods, bodies and mind. Dr. Lyster explains that it must include exercise, healthy eating and spirit as well.
