EPISODE SUMMARY:
At Hot Flashes and Cool Topics, we make it our goal to elevate the voices of midlife women and to create a platform where women feel supported. Our guest this week, Getrude Matshe, shares this same philosophy. Throughout her extensive career, Getrude has dedicated her life to helping others and giving women the opportunity to make their voices heard. In the beginning of this week’s episode, we sat down with Getrude and discussed her most recent project: Her Story Circle. From November 28th to December 13th, Her Story Circle will be an online summit where women from all ages and backgrounds can share their stories to inspire and connect with other women. Getrude also spoke to us about her upbringing, detailing her childhood and how she never saw herself as poor until she moved out of her village. She shared stories of how her parents left for London on a shared scholarship and left her with her grandmother, having nothing but grasshoppers and mice as sources of protein, and how, even from a young age, her parents instilled the importance of education in her. We also talked to Getrude about leaving her husband, her connection with children and orphanages, and the African philosophy known as Ubuntu.
Getrude Matshe
Speaker, entrepreneur, mother; Getrude Matshe is a woman of many talents. Having been raised in a small village in Africa, Getrude learned from a young age the importance of education. She used the strong work ethic instilled within her by her parents to leave her home and pursue a plethora of career opportunities. From starting Medical Recruiters of New Zealand to giving numerous Tedx Talks, Getrude’s knack for communication has allowed her to impact the lives of people worldwide. Most recently, Getrude’s newest project is an online summit called Her Story Circle. From November 28th to December 13th, female speakers from all over the world will be given the chance to share their stories, inspire others, and connect with other women. Her Story Circle strives to create a sense of community, and through this summit, Gertrude hopes she will be able to connect a million women.
HerStory Circle:
Women’s Global Empowerment Online Summit from November 28th – December 13th. The website describes the summit as the following:
“HerStory isn’t a ‘typical’ conference. It’s unlike anything you will have experienced before or since. The reason for this bold statement? It’s what we hear every time from the women who speak and attend.
This global and collaborative initiative, brings together women, from all cultures and creeds, to join together in sharing inspirational, enlightening, uplifting personal stories and experiences of issues that are affecting women – socially, econonically and environmentally.
The mission is global.
We are reintroducing (and introducing) Ubuntu, a “We-philosophy”
It’s a huge opportunity for authentic speakers, who want to share their powerful messages as widely as possible:
1,000 Locations around the world
100 Speakers required at each event
1,000,000 women worldwide”
