EPISODE SUMMARY:
We are so excited to welcome Melissa Meyers to the Hot Flashes and Cool Topics Team! Melissa will be joining us as our Midlife Lifestyle Expert, and throughout the year, she’ll be coming onto the podcast to talk with us about midlife fashion, beauty, health, and so much more! In today’s episode, we wanted to introduce our listeners to Melissa and give insight into her experiences and expertise as a midlife blogger. Melissa originally started her blog under the title “Ask Melissa” as a way to give advice on questions frequently asked by her peers and loved ones. After moving to Los Angeles with her family, Melissa was disheartened to see hardly any influencers who represented women over 40 and decided to take matters into her own hands. She started The Glow Girl, a blog dedicated to products and lifestyle tips targeted towards midlife women. When asked about the holidays and what gifts would be ideal for midlife women this year, Melissa gave us a ton of options, including cashmere sweatsuits, candles, and even recommended that women try some CBD products. Having reviewed so many products, Melissa told us how she spaces out and promotes her product reviews. Using Instagram stories, she does unboxing videos and gives her honest opinions on products. We asked Melissa about her nighttime routine favorites for the wintertime, and she gave us some great recommendations. Some of her favorite products come from Goop and include the eye cream, face cream, and body butter. Melissa also emphasized the importance of exfoliating and even recommended the Tula exfoliant for listeners looking for a good exfoliating product. Along with her own blog, Melissa also writes for Who What Wear, an online platform for women of all ages that gives information about fashion, beauty, celebrity, and more. In regard to midlife, Melissa told us she’s noticed that recently, Who What Wear has begun taking more of an interest in products geared towards women 50 and older, as have many online platforms. As the conversation turned towards the holidays and fashion, Melissa brought up how many women, especially in Los Angeles, are looking to make their face masks appear more fashionable. She recommended two brands, Gotta Have Face and Molly Pepper, that sell chic face masks. Finally, we spoke briefly about supplements, and Melissa told us about a brand called Thrive Gut Health. Thrive Gut Health is a company that examines a customer’s stool sample for food sensitives. Not only that, but Thrive Gut Health also offers recommendations for supplements that will fit a person’s individual needs.
